The World Economic Forum (WEF) has unveiled its ambitious metaverse project, the Global Collaboration Village, aimed at fostering collaboration among global leaders and institutions to tackle the world’s most pressing issues.
The virtual village will mimic the appearance and functionality of a Swiss city, where avatars can interact in co-working spaces, attend conferences in government buildings, and explore museums. WEF has partnered with Microsoft and Accenture to develop the project, which has already garnered support from more than 80 organizations and founding partners. The WEF intends for partners to have their own buildings within the village, enabling them to showcase their projects to users from around the world.
The WEF believes the virtual village will serve as a powerful tool and provide an immersive platform for environmentalists to raise awareness about current environmental concerns.
On Wednesday, Yuga Labs successfully launched their latest NFT project, the Sewer Pass collection, within the Bored Ape Yacht Club ecosystem. The project quickly gained traction, selling more than 4,000 ETH, or approximately $6 million, in the first day alone. The total sales for the first day reached over $12.8 million.
The Sewer Passes were offered as a complimentary addition to holders of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) or Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFTs, and are required to play the skill-based game, Dookey Dash. The game will be available to play from January 19 to February 8, and the scores will be incorporated into a broader narrative experience, “Chapter 1,” to be released at a later date.
The Sewer Passes were divided into four levels, determined by whether or not the holder also held a Bored Ape Kennel Club NFT in their wallet. At the time of writing, the lowest price for a Tier 1 Sewer Pass on the NFT marketplace OpenSea was 1.3 ETH, or approximately $1,970. The highest tier, Tier 4, could be purchased for up to 420 ETH.
Yuga Labs has taken a strategic step in the NFT market by blacklisting wallets that belong to secondary marketplaces, LooksRare and NFTX, in order to ensure creators receive a higher percentage of royalties. This move has given them a competitive advantage in the NFT marketplace.
The Seoul Government has initiated its Metaverse Seoul initiative, granting residents of the South Korean capital access to various municipal services in a virtual environment.
In a groundbreaking announcement, Mayor Oh Se-hoon unveiled the initial phase of Metaverse Seoul following a successful beta testing period. In recognition of its innovative approach, Metaverse Seoul was even included on TIME’s list of the 200 best inventions of 2022.
This virtual platform will serve as a valuable tool for citizens of Seoul to connect with one another and virtually explore some of the city’s most renowned landmarks. Additionally, residents will be able to easily access official documents, file complaints, and obtain information on paying taxes.
As the first major city to launch its own public Metaverse platform, Seoul’s ambitious five-year plan aims to provide its citizens with a wide range of government services, commercial opportunities, and cultural experiences like never before.
